This is one of my baby sets that I made. The booties are the same pattern as the "Easy Baby Booties" pattern and the hat was knit with a garter stitch rim and a dot stitch pattern for the main head on a straight set of needles. I now realize that everyone's got their own version of a "dot stitch pattern". I ended up using this one. Thing with this dot stitch pattern is that it can only be done on a multiple of 4 stitches.
Here is my pattern if you like to make the hat:
Worsted weight Yarn in Main Color (A) and Contrasting Color (B) for rim
Set of 4.5mm straight needles.1) Cast on 44 Stitches
2) Work in Garter Stitch for 6 rows in B Color.
3) Switch to A Color and work in Dot Stitch pattern as follows:
Row 1: K1 *P1, K3 repeat from * to last 2 sts, P1, K1.
Row 2: K all sts.
Row 3: *K3, P1 repeat from * to last 3 sts, K3.
Row 4: K all sts.
4) Continue dot stitch pattern until main head piece measure 5 inches (not including Garter St. rim).
5) Break yarn and weave through all remaining sts on needle, pull tight, sew up edges.
