In my long quest to find an easy flower knitting pattern I realized I had a couple of requirements:
1) MUST be easy enough to knit up quickly.
2) Must be knit in one piece and seamless (I really don't like seaming up little itty bitty pieces together)
3) Must look beautiful and not a child's craft project.
4) Must be a KNITTING PATTERN! (Not a crochet pattern)
I found out that there are a lot of patterns for crocheting, and even some knitting patterns that say they are knitting patterns but then when you read how to do the flower applique it switches to hooks and chains. This to me was frustrating, since I do not crochet and I refused to think that 2 needles had more limits than 1 hook. I found one pattern that I liked and so I have modified it slightly to have 8 petals and look fuller to share with the world. This pattern is very very easy!
Easy Flower Knitting Pattern For Knitters Only! Not Crocheters
(This pattern is for the blue flower shown above only! Not the red flower shown below)
Materials:
- 6.0mm (US10) straight knitting needles
- Yarn, medium worsted weight, #4
- Yarn needle
- Flower is approximately 3 inches in diameter.
Instructions:
1) Cast on 56 sts.
2) K row.
3) *K1, BO 5 sts leaving last st on right needle. Repeat * to end. (16 sts).
4) Cut yarn leaving an 8 inch tail.
5) With yarn needle thread tail through all remaining sts and pull tightly. Securely tie off and cut any ends.
6) To get it to lay flat I push all the petals through the holes so that they are all facing the same direction.
I have also designed a beautiful flower and leaf pattern to knit (I repeat knit, not crochet!) shown below in Cranberry Red yarn. Wonderful for embellishing sweaters and scarves (and oh so cute on baby hats) where it won't flop over on you. It is approx. 4 inches in diameter. If you would like the flower and leaf pattern directly e-mailed to you asap (in pdf format), just click on the button below the pictures.

I was looking for a cute flower to adorn a felted hat. This flower is perfect. Very cute, very easy, very fast.
Love it! Thank you so much!
So cute! It's awesome!
what is , BO 5 sts plz
BO 5 Sts means "Bind Off 5 Stitches"
and what does bind off mean please???
Bind Off or BO means:
Knit two stitches. Insert the top of the left needle into the first stitch on the right needle. Lift the stitch over the last stitch you knit and over the top of the right needle.
Here is a link with pictures and video for you:

I LOVE you!! I've been looking for something just like this for so long!
Thank you for sharing this pattern. I've been having a hard time finding a knit flower that wasn't hard to knit and that also looks nice. This one is perfect! I am going to make one today to adorn a hat I am almost done knitting for my daughter.
great simple pattern thank you for sharing!
Amazing thank you. This will look perfect on the hat I've just knitted for my daughter!!
Thanks
Super easy pattern...BUT I'm not quite sure what it means to 'push all the petals through the holes.' Tried a couple things but don't think I'm doing it correctly. Would appreciate a little help. Thanks!
Ah, I see. I meant to say that the loops that form the petals, you may need to adjust them so that they are laying down the same way. I apologize for the confusion, it may have been better to leave that sentence out!
Knit the free pattern flower in the Homespun to match the hat and this was a good pattern for that bulky yarn--cute for giveaways for less fortunate kids in the Tucson area!
Could you please explain step 3 a little more? I think it means to repeat knitting a row and binding off 5 at a time until all are bound off. I am confused about what the 16 stitches at the end means. Thanks!
3) *K1, BO 5 sts leaving last st on right needle. Repeat * to end. (16 sts)
Means:
Knit 1 stitch, then bind off the next 5 stitches. You should have 2 stitches on your right needle after this. Then keep repeating this step to the end of the row. You should then have a total of 16 stitches remaining on your right needle.
I will try to explain this even further, however it may be more confusing! Here goes:
- Knit 1 stitch.
- Knit 2 more stitches, slip the previous stitch over the last stitch you knit and off the right needle (basically binding off 1 stitch). You should now have 2 stitches on your right needle.
- Now knit 1 stitch, slip the previous stitch over this stitch (you are now binding off 2 stitches).
- Keep doing this until you bind off 5 stitches.
- Repeat from the "knit 1" step again.
Hope this helps!
Thank you so much! That cleared things up for me :)
thank you very much!
i was looking for a knitted flower for so long
everyone is done by crochet now!!!
ty
this is sweet. i love it. i have been looking for about 6 months for a good one and this is it. thank u so much ;-)
BRILLIANT. SO EASY.
Thank you thank you. This was so brilliant and so easy!
Thank you so much! I was searching for a flower pattern online and your "criteria" put into words exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for sharing.
Could you please explain step number 5 in detail.
I have a hard time understanding step number five too, i don't get how to sow it
Ah, sorry about that! Let's take a closer look at step '5':
5) With yarn needle thread tail through all remaining sts and pull tightly. Securely tie off and cut any ends.
What this means is: use a yarn needle to thread the yarn tail through each of the stitches that are still remaining on your knitting needle. Then carefully slip all the stitches off your knitting needle so that all your stitches are on the yarn tail and gathered together to form the flower.
Absolutely delightful! I just made the smaller one to attatch to a new headband/ear warmer -- looks great. However, I clicked the button to "buy" the pattern for the second flower, and there was a charge. I'm wheelchair bound in a nursing home, so I have to take advantage of all on-line freebies, and I don't know what I did wrong. Can you help me get the pattern? Thanks so much!
I'm confused.... l'just getting one long petal, how are they seperated?
Also, your display flower shows a tiny leaf off to the side, is pattern included
Sorry about all of the questions..... is this a size 10 straight needle? Could you do this on circular needle? Also I purchased your beautiful crimson flower, but I can't find the pattern......is it supposed to be on my e-mail?
I use a straight needle, not sure if you can do it on a circular needle but you can definitely try. If you purchased a knitting pattern directly from my website, then you will receive an email with a LINK to the pattern. Thanks and hope this helped!
I have been trying to knit the crimson flower but it certainly doesn'look like yours! How do you get 16 stitches left on your right needle? I have tried and tried but cannot get that many left over stitches. Your flower also looks so tightly knitted, mine is loose and hard to get shaped. I love the look of this flower and would really like to make one that looks like the picture. Also what size needles are using?
Hello there! Firstly, just wanted to make sure you know that the pattern listed here is for the blue flower. The crimson flower pattern is a pattern for sale, therefore it is a different pattern entirely. If you did already buy the crimson flower pattern (called Bella) then please email me directly at contactcreatery@gmail.com for help. Thanks!
Can anyone help me with this? I'm a new knitter and blue flower instructions make no sense to me. She says to knit one stitch after your cast on and then BO five stitches til the end of the row. She says in () 16 stitches. Where do these stitches come from. She says there will only be one stitch on the right needle. I love knitted flowers and this shouln't be that hard, I'm missing something
Absolutely perfect to add to the baby poncho I knit for my granddaughter! Sooooo easy!! Thanks!!
Thank you! I needed a pattern to put on a glasses case, and I modified this just a bit to get it really lacey looking. It is beautiful, and I agree, crocheting can never beat knitting.
I love this pattern. Perfect for thebaby sweater and hat I'm knitting for my first granddaughter (due in Sept). Thanks for sharing the pattern
What did you use as the center? It looks like a small button
It is definitely a button!
I LOVE this-thanks so much!!!!
I just made of these cute flowers and reviewed the pattern on my blog, Check it out!

Thank you so very much I can not crochet and this flower was perfect to finish off a baby hat that I have made would love the leaf but cannot afford to buy the pattern but the flower is perfect x
Wonderful!! I am a beginning knitter and I made a simple rib stitch scarf for my sister's birthday present. This was the perfect little accent to make it not so plain, and easy enough for me to make on the first try. Thank you so much!!
I have been having a wee chuckle to myself about all the questions - bet you're sorry you bothered!
Simple, straightforward instructions & a lovely result. Thank you very much & best wishes from Scotland.
Thank u ur flower is perfect, and easy to do. My fav part is that it is seemless.
It's very simple and beautiful. And it's knitted NOT crocheted.
Thnx for sharing!
Such a beautiful project! I have been looking for a knit flower for ages, and this is the only one I have found that I like.
I bought the pattern for the crimson flower and have found that mine doesn't quite look as neat and crisp as yours. Is there a type of yarn you recommend? Or do you tend to knit more tightly? Thanks!
Try to use a thicker yarn like a worsted weight yarn, and acrylic yarn works well to and keeps its shape better!
I love you! I can't tell you how long I've wanted a KNIT pattern but just haven't sat down to do it myself. I too get frustrated with supposed knitting patterns that turn out to be crocheted flowers!
Thanks for the flower, and the explanation on step 3...I needed it! Looks great! :-)
I recently have bought some really cute balls of wool and wondered what to do with them this was perfect it looked the pattern looks very simple but it is perfect for me as I am yet to become part of my mum and sister's knit and natter between themselves I am only 11 though I hope this project will show them that I can knit properly thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What do the 16 in parenthesis mean?
I cannot fighter it i get to the end it donot look right. I love the blue flower would love to be able to do it
Please put a video on from start to finish Thanks
I would love a video. I'm a beginner and been learning on my own.

Hello. I so agree with your comments about a lot of crochet patterns (for flowers and leaves etc.) but not a lot in knitting. I have done everything possible in sewing, knitting, quilting, embroidery, tapestry etc. etc. but never took to crochet and don't like it much - so l don't! You can achieve so much with knitting and l was so pleased when l found your lovely pattern in....KNITTING.....HURRAY. Thank you so much for sharing this - can't wait to start it. Best Wishes. googlin130
Maybe this will help. You have cast on 56 stitches. You end up with 8 petals (so 7 stitches for each petal). Knit the first stitch. Bind off the next 5 stitches. Then knit the next stitch. That's 7 stitches and you have a petal with 2 stitches on the right needle. Do that 7 more times and you have 8 petals with 16 stitches on the right needle. Finish by running yarn thru the 16 stitches and pull tight and tie off. You have a flower. Use the yarn to attach the flower.
I can't seem to buy the flower and leaf pattern- when I try I get a message saying "Sorry! This pattern store is no longer active on Ravelry"
Is it still for sale?

As someone who often gets frustrated by the lack of diversity in knitting patterns, this is like a breath of fresh air! As a beginner knitter, I've often struggled to find patterns that are both easy to follow and produce a beautiful result. This one not only meets those criteria but also avoids the need for crocheting, which I haven't yet mastered. The modifications to make the flower fuller are a brilliant touch, and I can't wait to try it out on my next knitting project.
