Free Easy 3C Chunky Collar Cowl Knitting Pattern

Who would have thought that I would be waking up today to a winter wonderland of 2 feet of slushy snow after having slipped through a surprisingly warm (and dry) holiday season?  Well, it looks like Spring has not sprung yet over here, so we may as well keep knitting to stay warm!

So far, 2012 has been good to me (all 14 days worth!) and I thought a free knitting pattern may bring more good fortune for the rest of the year.  I call this pattern my 'EASY 3C' pattern, Chunky Collar Cowl.  It's very easy to knit and very fun to wear (as you can see!)  I just love that deep purple against the fresh white snow in my backyard!  So hopefully all of you are having a good start to 2012 and if not, I hope this fun and free pattern will make you feel better, enjoy!

UPDATE:
I've been getting a few questions on how I sew up the sides of the knitting piece.  Here are a few photos to show you what I did to sew up the sides together.  I used a different color yarn to show up better, however in one of the pictures hopefully you can make out the actual purple yarn that I stitched to sew up the sides to the middle of the knitted piece.  I hope this helps!

Hey there! I love love LOVE the look of this pattern. I'm a little confused though (forgive me I'm relatively new to knitting). You say to cast on holding two strands, now from there do you treat it as a double knit or Do I simply knit the two strands together? I tried doing it as a double knit and it doesn't quite look the same. Also I'm kind of confused by the sewing up at the end. This is my second cowl and I understand the concept of sewing together, it's just in your picture the cowl appears to have an edge instead of being more of an infinity circle? Regardless I love it and really want to make my own. Help !! :-)

Just hold the two yarn strands together like they are one strand and knit as usual. Not a double knit. I just sew it up, throw it on, and go!

I see, you only sew it half way up, that's why there is an edge. I'm going to give this a try. I have everything except the right size needles. I have a size 17, this calls for a 19

I'm a new knitter too. When you say sew up the sides, will I use the two strands of yarn to do the sewing, or just one strand of yarn?

Loved the cowl and the colour! I could only find 12mm needles and a very thick yarn so I will use one strand. I hope it turns out ok :/ Plus I coudn't find a similar colour but I'm using a nice levander... Thanks for sharing! :)

The yarn I used was a little fuzzier but I like it anyway and I added ribbon for the edge.
